Over 40 Rotary District 7430 Middle Schoolers spent a weekend at Kutztown University with the theme, "Astrobiology, the Search for Life on Mars". The focus of the STEM curriculum is on hands-on learning with real-world applications to help develop a variety of skill sets that our modern world depends upon. Our club sponsored two students, who were excited and grateful for the opportunity. (photo above)
On the last day, the students were very excited to share their projects and how life on Mars would work. Additional highlights heard were time at the planetarium, receiving their own lab coat, and of course...the food. They ate all meals in Kutztown University's "Cub Cafe", which offered soft-serve ice-cream for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!

The success of the weekend comes down to a year of planning. Rotarians serving this year on the STEM YEA Team from our club were Al Engel and Darlene Scott. ST Vice President Sarah Bergin volunteered overnight as a dorm monitor. We look forward to next year, and we hope you will consider getting involved!
